George you are a star. I remember being online (at 3am in the UK, Sept 2007) with an imported US AT&T iPhone, when you released your beta command-line code then... a few minutes of complete panic and then I was the first UK Vodafone user of the iPhone mk1... :)
Being impatient I already used the Windows purplera1n on my 3GS but I only own Macs (can't stand Windows) so had to use someone else's box.
Purplera1n for the Mac worked *perfectly* on my Mac setup and for anyone considering running it over a phone already JB'd with Windows purplera1n mk1 - IT WORKS. Without needing restore or anything - my data was all still there.
Just waiting for Saurik to add the necessary code to Winterboard and we'll be laughing.
I keep very quiet on these boards but props are *definitely* in order to you... Nice one fella and in the game of cat and mouse, you appear to be the mouse with the most, heh :)

I just bought my iPhone3Gs today... puplera1n & ultrasnow worked perfectly for me!!
tips to do away with the wifi prob:
- reboot after installing Cydia
- reboot after installing Ultrasn0w (via Cydia)
- good to have a fast, reliable wifi (internet) connection
everything is working!
- wifi (using cydia, safari, maps, compass)
- GSM signal, no issues
- apps store
- location services
- sync with MSExchange server / Gmail
... all other stuff is working.. no performance issues, no failing apps (except for those not yet supported in fw3.0)!
note: depending on where the inserted SIM is from, the iTunes store might not work. iTunes store is not yet supported in Philippines).. who cares!?
system: WindowsXP Pro w/ SP3 (sorry i hate Vista! :) )

I did the RC1 jailbreak on my 3GS with my windows computer and it was great except cracked applications weren't using push.....Just redid the jailbreak without restoring or anything with my macbook pro and I Push seems to be working great through all of the applications now.

What makes this still a beta release if all is working fine? How come some people have issues and others don't if we are all on stock 3.0 firmware?
I used purplera1n for the mac and it was truly the most simple jailbreak I ever performed, but I had issues with my wifi shutting off for no reason and my signal for T-Mobile USA is not that great for some reason, i cannot send sms messages and when I call my house to test... the call will not hang up.
I have turned off 3G and rebooted after every install... on a side not how do you get rid of the freeze app after all is installed? I tried CyDelete... no go though... says that it was not installed by Cydia?

For those having intermittent wifi and carrier signal on tmobile. Don't install bosspref or sbsettings. Turn on Airplane Mode, wait 5 seconds, then turn it off. It works for me sometimes.

I have ran into a few freezes and lockups, anyone else have that happen? I think it may have something to do with SBSettings. Also GPS acting a little funny too. Hello. I bought the 3gs Today and very much want it jailbroken so I can enjoy the benefits of making my iphone original. I have tried to follow the instructions online and have downloaded purplera1n.app However once I run the program I get an error message that says " YOU CANNOT OPEN THE APPLICATION PURPLERA1N.APP BECAUSE IT IS NOT SUPPORTED ON THIS SYSTEM." I have looked for trouble shooting tips however have been unable to find anything. Someone please help. I am currently on the 3.0 software.

The only other one I tried that hasn't worked was tonefxs. It caused the phone to enter safe mode... Which ones work?

If it has updated successfully and you didn't run into any problems, you should be good to go =)
The Donation link in Purplera1n.com is not working.
I installed PurpleRa1n and it's working great. One thing is that it took a lot longer to run than I thought it would - if you do a RC3, I'd recommend a warning to be patient. I thought it hung the first time and interrupted it - that wasn't good.
Also, as Seagull noted, the donation link on the purplera1n website doesn't work.

The mac version worked great and no issues with my phone in regards to Wifi or signal. All apps are fine and no noticable difference in speed. Great job. What i did was to restart the phone after installing cydia and it seems to resolve some of the issues noted.

Advice please. As a complete newbie at JB etc, I JB and unlocked without problem. Afterwards all fine inc Wi-Fi. Phone and SMS working on UK T-Mobile but not MMS. After rebooting a couple of time MMS worked too. Then the phone switched itself off and when I switched it on it doesn't even search for the network, no phone calls or anything. Rebooting or switching SIMs doesn't help but if I use O2 SIM, it works again. Unless anyone has a solution to this, I would like to restore to original setup. When I option restore, iTunes says it will 'verify the restore with Apple'. Is it OK to go ahead with this or do I need to use a different ipsw file? Apologies for such a basic question but this is my first attempt.

You are a retard. The Dev Team exploits are from Geohot. The JB works perfectly all 4 times I've used it. The issues people are having have NOTHING to do with the JB it has to do with the programs people use after jailbroken. Some of these programs include Winterboard and Ultrasnow to unlock. Saurik has even said he needs to patch winterboard. Get your facts straight.

Install cydelete > go into iPhone settings > select cydelete settings > turn on non-Cydia deletion > delete FREEZE.
I suggest turning off non-Cydia deletion afterward.

If issues occur, try to follow this
I've tried, and it works perfectly.
JailBreak seems to be ok now, except Winterboard ETC.
For Ultrasn0w users,
Make sure that AFTER you've INSTALLED Ultrasn0w, you HAVE to insert THRID PARTY SIM before you begin to REBOOT your phone. If you REBOOT with your ATT SIM, the problem WILL OCCUR.
Problem with the WIFI when installed Ultrasn0w,
First, Remove ultrasn0w as soon as possible.
Then, Go to settings, General, Reset, Reset Network Settings,...The phone will REBOOT automatically.
After the phone is been REBOOT, you can connect to WIFI regularly, then connect it,
Now you have a connection to INSTALL Ultrasn0w from Cydia,
Install Ultrasn0w, then REBOOT BY "THIRD PARTY SIM".
.......
After the phone reboot with a thrid party sim that inserted, the phone WON'T work correctly, you can try to call someone ^^, IT WON'T WORK!
In this case: you have 2 (TWO) Choices.
First choice, go to setting, turn the flight mode on "WAIT UNTIL THE MENU CARRIER disappeared"
After menu "Carrier" disapeared, Turn FLight Mode "Off", That's it!!
Second choice, Remove your currect sim from sim tray then insert it again, that's it!!
Seems it because of the BUG! that's it!!

There is a bug with "Tricker ThreeG" and the iPhone 3GS. If you have this Cydia app installed you will NOT be able to launch the App Store. I read another guy said Fring. I have confirmed that simply removing Tricker ThreeG will give you access back into the App Store.

Stay far away from the ra1n, the sn0w is where it's at!

Purplera1n rc2 worked perfectly on my 3GS.
It has exactly the same status as the Redsn0w hack now, since on both we have Winterboard and no Voipover3G yet.
So no need to conclude that any solutions is different, althought Redsn0w is also for Linux.

Do they give BJ's with a Jailbreak? Why is it better? 99% or more could not even tell you the difference with redsnow and Purplera1n. Except how easy Purplera1n is. Wow all you people that jump ship when you see DevTeam's name on a Jailbreak. You need a lesson in the iPhone history of Jailbreaks without Geohot there is no beginning, so show some respect even if your dumb enough to use Redsn0w. Thank You George for all the hard work and sleepless nights from 07 to now. Also whats up with the devteam finding the same hole sounds a little fishy to me. How long does it take once you start the program
I installed purplera1n on the first day available and haven't had any problems. Great signal, wifi, and push all working with no prob.

If your one of the people who can't get it to work you must disable internet access open itunes, then run the patch.
If you bricked your phone you must restor on a different USB port than you were using when you bricked it. so if it was a front port use one from the back or a different computer all togeather.

If your true dev team fans then I'm sure you've read on their forum that people are having the same problems. Don't know how you could blame purplera1n? I think it's just that some people don't know how to follow directions( itouch man) and want to blame everyone else for being a retard.
Ok i'm having some problems with installing it from a Mac. I click the make it ra1n button and it will say its done but the iphone wont let me do anything and it makes me reconnect back to itunes. It has the itunes and usb cord symbol on the fone instead of geohot on the iphone. Can anyone please help me?

It is stuck in restore mode I suppose.
You can use QuickPwn to get it out of restore mode, at least on Windows (i have not tryed on mac).
I had the same problem on Windows Vista.
On XP to get it back, start QuickPwn en connect the phone.
It will tell you to hold home and power and release home after 15 secs.
Then my phone booted (it does not work without QuickPwn).
Hope this helps, if not, you can do a restore and try again, or try Redsn0w.
By the way, I jb'ed my 3gs on Xp Sp3 running on VirtualBox on my Mivvy M310 :).
