Great work, thanks again. I finally got the original release to work for me last night, after many attempts, so hopefully this will help everyone else having issues with the USB payload errors. :)
Does anyone know if there is any advantage to rejailbreaking. If yes, is there any way other than to do a restore, rejailbreak and put all of my stuff back on.

just ran purplra1nrc2, looks good. Didnt need to freeze again and kernal patches seem to have fixed the terminal issues. MobileFinder still won't run, but I guess thats in sauriks court
Yep, just checked, you can just run the program again and everything will be as it was before. Even your cydia apps are still there.

i have tried to update and the purple rain logo is stuck on the image. It worked fine for RC1 though

Just done a retore and ran RC2, now working fine, although i do see a reduction in the phone signal, from 5 bars down to 3.
This worked perfectly! I can confirm it working 100% with Windows 7 x64.
I also have a locked phone, all I see is people answering saying they have the same problem:D Does anyone know if there really isnt a way to get around it out yet, do we have to wait?
Guys - DON'T RUN RC2 OVER RC1!!
I did it, and it completely messed things up >.<. Took me a good 30 mins to get it all fixed. Restore to the original 3.0 firmware first, and then apply RC2.

make it rain ecc... i arrived with jeohot on my ipod i restarted manually and i am having always connect to itunes.....

I used this program with 10 phones all worked perfectly. No problems with wifi. I found this jailbreak easy to use. All phones unlocked with ultrasn0w no problem.

after i removed the rc1, the rc2 worked with no problems
from what i heard, u can bypass the activation by plugging in the USB while the phone is off and holding down the HOME button. this puts the phone in restore mode and u just run purplera1n. i havent tried that yet. still dnt have my phone.

RC1 worked fine for me. RC2 sticks on purplerain splashscreen, whether I start it over RC1, or do it over a fresh restore.
I've tried this one several times, but it keeps getting stuck at the recovery logo.
When I then restart purplera1n, it continues and I see the logo, it stays there for a couple of minutes, and then reboots with a flash. No Freez application is to be found though, so I guess it didn't work.

some of the problems reported (incomplete jb) sound like the iphone was on a usb hub - put it right on the pc, worked for me
was already jailbroken using purplera1n, just ran RC2 with no problems at all. Thanks geohot

Does someone used purplera1n with ultrasn0w? It is true that WIFI will stop working?
Make sure you activate your wifi before you try and download cydia. It is an easy mistake. Let everything in cydia upgrade and load ultrasn0w. Re-boot and you will be unlocked. I used an older computer and nothing worked. After I switched computers worked perfectly. Check your hardware.
i used this on top of rc1 and i was left with a black screen everytime my phone turned on, the backlight was on and it was just completely black as in, i couldnt see anything, i had to restore :(
I'm having a religious problem... jailbreak w/ rc2 but have to boot into XP or wait for OSX version and remain pure for the day.

Entirely random question, and I'm sure I'll be told something like "just use poof," but how do I get freeze off my iPhone now that I've got Cydia up and running?
Everything is working like a charm! except OpenSSH - tried OpenSSH/ToggleSSH+AutomaticSSH - both didnt work as expected. can connect and type and so on, but after some seconds ssh doesnt respond. it sporadically disconnects me...any help? getting no errors...

*sigh* 4 Attempts on my 64-bit Vista OS and keep getting stuck on the Recovery mode with the itunes logo with the cord.
Trying it ONE more time, I even unplugged it + restarted purplera1n when it gets stuck on that part but nothing happens.
Those with wifi issues and your t-mobile carrier dropping in and out. I uninstalled bosspref and install sbsettings instead. In sbsettings, I turned everything off including wifi and phone. Then I turn wifi on and then phone on.
If you don't have wifi issues, you probably shouldn't install bosspref or sbsettings.

It just says "Entering Recovery Mode..." and never switches.
Left it like that for over 10 minutes and nothing, so I tried restarting purplera1n and it says "Waiting for phone..." nothing happens after a couple minutes.

1)

download this file, save it somewhere, where you will find it again
2) google for iphonebrowser, download as well
3) connect your jailbroken iphone 3gs to your pc
4) open iphone browser and navigate to /usr/libexec
5) look for lockdownd and right klick it
6) klick replace file and pick the file you downloaded before
7) Reboot
It took some seconds before my iphone legt emergency screen after the first reboot... so be patient

i 3gs could not boot it back when jailbreaked ... it get stuck at apply logo for long time... i plugin itune the iphone popup normal but on 3gs still stuckin apply logo.. need help. wat did i do wrong
kudos Geo, had a few issues with RC1, but it worked eventually on XP SP3. Used RC2 over the top of my previous ra1n on Vista, and it went without a single hitch. clever mate...very clever!

Crap... installed RC1 yesterday and tried to install RC2 2hours ago. Always gets stuck at the purplera1n logo.
It says "done, waiting for reboot", but nothing happens.
Tried to restore with iTunes, Recovery & DFU Mode, but alway gives me an error (error 14 and error ????)
Help anyone?

Will this work on UK Iphone 3gs or just US version as i have run it well over 20 times and it just gets stuck at recovery screen
This worked for me, but not first time. I had RC1 installed and tried to install RC2 over the top. Like other people it froze on the picture of George.
It was stuck in recovery mode and no matter what I tried (soft reset included) I couldn't restart it.
So I had to do a complete restore and then install RC2.
Now everything works great. Thanks so much!

DANG IT. I tried for hours over hours both releases and none of them worked for me! It just stucks in the "running" stage and won't go on. and the error is that payload thing... I tried over 3 computers - all XP SP3 in different USB slots. even tried to disconnect all other slots. none worked.
I bought the iPhone in Canada and it's locked... but as i understand I should first JB it and then unlock...
Im desperate :( what is different from me to all others that DID JB it

the chef: Cydia crashed on me when I first loaded it, worked on the second try, then I loaded the updates with no problems. After that I loaded boss pref's and ram fix dir permissions. Works like a champ for me. hope that helps.

AT ALL WITH WIFI Problems i have the answer.
OK at first i had wifi problems because i used ultrasn0w. Here the settings to resolve the problem, it is a little woraround.
The problem occurs because the gsm net. Put off the wifi in your iphone. So put off the iphone an put it on again.
After starting he will the code for your sim card. Do not enter this code.
Go to the Wifi settings, now it must worked. After you make all settings for Wifi.
Make a call, so the iphone will unlock your sim card. now you can enter your sim code an both is working, Wifi and GSM.

Ok guys I forgot to add restart your phone when finished installing cydia. The icon will appear after restart. Take a long time for cydia to download but just wait it out and it will finish and install. Goodluck!

@dan holmstock: but it WAS broken. Hence the need for kernel patches. Just because you didn't notice it. SSH was not working for one, now it is.
To remove Freeze from your springboard, just SSH into the iPhone and delete Freeze.app folder from /Applications
yet over 3g everything in cydia downloads fine?
so ive restored multiple times. had run RC1 with no problem, freeze, cydia etc. ran RC2 on top of RC1 and did not work, tried 4 or 5 times, now i go into recovery mode but just sticks there and wont even do anything. any help?

Excellent Jailbreak program! RC2 seems to work better than RC1. Make sure you restore your iPhone 3GS with the original firmware 3.0 from Apple, then run Purplrra1n RC2 from Windows. You must have a valid ATT SIM card to activate the phone, then run Freeze to install Cydia. After rebooting, update Cydia and install ULTRASN0W, then you are ready to use any SIM card you have. Enjoy a jailbroken and unlocked iPhone 3GS!
