"I guess it's the 3G S Ramdisk keys, it means you're fully pwned"

Does that mean we are (or are very close to) being jailbroken? Meaning do we know that the 3GS can be jailbroken?

I remember @MuscleNerd mentioned on Twitter that this will be the big question.

Man these guys are so incredible smart...

Can this lead to a permanent unlock (compromised bootloader) like the one we have for 2G phones? What about previous generation 3G phones?

Cool Work, please GEO & DevT. collaborate gracefully!

Thank you geohot, i'm glad people like you care enough to help others escape being locked into only using at&t. Hope you get a unlock for us soon. You rock! :)

This worries me: most core apps between 3G and 3GS are the exact same... except for the binaries. The binaries are different, and ones from the 3GS won't run on the 3G; they die with a "Bad CPU type in executable" message in the terminal. I wonder: does the 3GS have some sort of compatibility layer?

Nice to see the iphone-dev guys are working together with GeoHot again :)

Thanks a lot for your work. You make A LOT people feeling lucky :D

I would guess it is a one way issue - 3GS only applications (included in the firmware) can be compiled to use the Cortex instruction set (Thumb2 or NEON) and would not work on the older processor, but the Cortex-A8 runs binary code from older ARM generations with no problem.

Great job man!

@geohot Thanks for all your hard work and willingness to share the results. I wouldn't own an iPhone without the ability to jailbreak it. :)

@all Would someone kindly point me toward some information on making a USB dump of a restore image? Do you do it from a hacked iPhone? Using a USB protocol analyzer? TIA. /jab
