iPhone 3G Unlocked?

So I read this on gizmodo. Here's the truth...

Post beta 4, the ramdisk hack stopped working. Sorry Zibri, guess you'll have to steal another exploit. They also changed the recovery mode USB protocol to use the control endpoint to send commands.

The possiblity of unlocking, which is very distinct from jailbreaking, is based entirely on the baseband bootloader. Apple doesn't appear to upgrade the bootloader on phones in the field, probably for fear of bricks. So any old iPhones out there today, regardless of version, can be unlocked.

The iPhone 3G uses a different bootloader, which I believe there aren't any known exploits in yet. So no unlock.

There is a known exploit in iBoot, on both the old and 3G iPhones. The "the specific date/time is not firm yet" pwnage tool will leverage it to jailbreak all 2.0 software iPhones, 3G and otherwise. Dev team, that date better be soon or I might just have to release yiPhone. The iBoot exploit is yours, use it. You wouldn't want a repeat of ZiPhone now...

This is what I believe that has happened. Hotz never planned on releasing the jailbreak/unlock software, bcoz he knows that the iphone dev team are the ones who found the exploit(for the new firmware and iphone), and he is not the kind of guy to take credit for something that he has not done.
He is just trying to tell the dev team to release is soon and is making fun of zibri how he stole the exploit and just created his own gui and started taking credit and donations.
I think the exploit was leaked the george(although he wont use it) and he is afraid that in the same way it might get leaked to someone like zibri and they would take credit for the whole 2.0 and 3g unlock/jailbreak.
YIphone is obviously a name used to taunt ziphone. He definitely wouldn't have released an application called ziphone. The countdown timer was probably just when he believed that the dev team would release pwnage
Anyways please reply to my comment if any of you'll agree with this(esp george)

2. FACT: off and in school, waiting for 'dev team' to unlock 4.6bl, george finally spent a long night reversing, and voila! was responsible for 1.1.2 and beyond iphones being UNLOCKED!

3. FACT: george is NOT zibre.

4. zibre(ziphone.org) is the person who threw dev team under the bus, not george.

5. dev team, george, zibre, and everyone else are HACKING, meaning cracking something that is otherwise not intended/sold/meant to be cracked. thus, this is the nature of the beast.

6. attention feels good. for all of you who find it easy to cast stones, why not try to reverse/unlock something that is locked, or do ANYTHING that would garner worldwide attention... if you naysayers and stone-throwers and name-callers would dedicate some of that energy on doing something neat, or unique, perhaps you might find yourself in the 'unfortunate' position of being recognized, in which case a plethora of idiots(like yourself) would be calling YOU names, and and talking at/to you like they know what they are talking about, but in truth have no clue about the FACTS.

7. what about iphonesimfree? they were first software unlock, long before george and dev team... they charged money, provided a product, people paid, it's a free world for the most part. such is life.

summary: encourage people like george, who has not acted immature, or reduced himself to name-calling, or making posts about someone else(like devteam or deveteam members), but instead has provided solutions and bits and pieces to the overall iphone unlocking puzzle. heck, even folsk like zibre(ziphone), who indeed took credit and used someone elses code without permission, in fact created a very simple means by which people(in masses) could unlock their iphones. so, be it devteam, george, of folks like zibre... when they do something that is NEEDED, it is EVIDENCED by the fact that people flock to it and use it and benefit from it. why is that not enough? imagine if YOU were responsible for doing the work to get your own iphone unlocked? much less the rest of the world and their iphones? you would not appreciate it if some ignorant and completely ill-informed person/people posted comments to your blog telling you what an asshole or idiot you are for being smart, intelligent, resourceful, and SHARING.

it's you people that need to grow up and pay attention and at least RESEARCH the facts before making foolish statements.

and george ... thanks a bunch. i've unlocked countless iphones using hardware-method back in the day(in the early day, and in the 1.1.2 day), and i've also unlocked many many more iphones using software unlock methods, that without YOUR reversing job, would have not been possible otherwise... because no one else was even close(devteam, et, al) to providing the needed 'piece' to the puzzle at that time. you are young, but not stupid, so all of these negative posts should only reinforce what most smart people know... the world is populated with many ignorant people, who speak foolishly and without regard or respect to either history, fact, or truth.

Yeah, "yiPhone" is obviously a play on "ziPhone". But why the hell should one recognize this as a joke? Just like 2.x is exactly "one" bigger than 1.x, "y" is also exactly "one" bigger than "z", also if it's in the opposite direction and in ASCII-values instead of Integers.

For IT people this would just have been the most logicalal (and in the same time the most funny) name to imagine for the successor of ziPhone .

I mean, Geo found a name that states quite well that it's the successor of ziPhone, he even registered a dedicated domain name for this "project" and to round this up, he even tried to put a "crypted" countdown on that site (physiologically trying to say "something 'mysterious' is going on here, try to decode it"), so for an IT with no background information on all the bitchin' going on between Zibri, Geo, the Dev's and whoever else was involved in there, it was quite obvious that this could not be a joke.
