hey dude where do you live? you know if you start doing this for ppl like even just 10 a week! thats like 500 to 1000 for you in your pocket right there!
or make a software unlock lol and sell it for like 20.
Might want to include the temprature the solderiron is set at as well as the kind of solder you are using. Too hot a solder iron and you will fry your board.
I love this already and I'm almost there... Just a question though; in the last image it looks as though your wire (connected to the "red line") is connected at two or even three places, with more then one pin at the board. Is this really so or are my eyes screwing around with me?
Let's get to the step where the switch comes in handy ;)
QUIT COMPLAINING. Geeesh!! The process will get detailed better in the coming hours/days to be sure. He's a busy guy doing his best to get this out there early.
with some soldering experience this is a piece of cake. Equipment is the key, don't try this stuff with too big soldering irons. I use a 0,4mm needle style point
When you solder the wire do you need to remove the solder from the surface mount resistor (or cap, whatever that is)? In other words, leave the surface mount component connected to the trace or not? or is it irrelevant as you're bypassing it?.
And second... the other wire goes to which trace? (there are several in parallel).
Clearly, a higher-rez pic of this step is critical, imho. :)
I have worked in Electronics for 40 years, I worked for Motorola for 11 years (up till 2001). When I started I was great working on the phones Micro Tacs, V Phone. When we got to CDMA I was lost. They say if you can Repair Radar, or Colr TV (I did TV's never got to work on Radar) you can repair anything. Not true. I work for the raolroad now Canadian Pacific repairing Radios and used to repair trackside detectors. Jus
Just being able to get these phones apart is a pain. Then soldering the components (leade thru components are so much easier to work with, I'm building a Stereo Preamp (a nice high end type to use with Vinyl Phongraph records to you young folks) I would much rather work with IC's with pins on them than surface mount. If you do surface mount you have to make a pc brd to either convert them to leaded components or design one for the circuit, I know there are progreams but it's still a pain. Anyway I've probably said too much. Oh yeah.. I still work with TUBES!!! I jsut want to encourage you to keep learning, I'm still learning @ 56, and altho I can't possible keep up with all the innovations I do try to keep learning. You have a talent. I would not be surprised if you didn't get several job and scholarship offers. Best of Luck in your future endeavors, GOD Bless you. If you wanted to respond that'd be great but if not I'm sure you're swamped.

question? do you leave the trace 17 and the 18+ wire connected or remove them or leave them in the phone not connected when your done unlocking the phone
Let me see, If I understand you! First, You had made a "bridge" from the diodo that I see in the picture to 1.8V line, and then leave another wire of the 1.8V line and you unite it to the end of the switch. Second you scrape away at the trace and solder the wire on trace and the other part of it goes to the other side of the switch.(Hello from Mexico)
Hi Steve, you're really a genius !!! teen play the hacker + a lot of noise in TVs + something 100% legal = A lot of money I'm wondering if this is not a "made in Apple" invention. Just imagine only the advertising for Steve Job in all the most watched TV channels. Imagine also the N° of people that can't buy iphone because of the exclusivity of AT&T. I saw the code I saw the 10 steps and really very complicated and not just a 300 teen working hours that could do such thing.
hello man, a close friend of mine is going to new york for a week, i would like that she buys me an iphone unlocked or virgin (without at&t contract of course), do you know where??? thanks mariano

YOu will make like 10 grand ez
think we need a video geo.. for me is too trick to see.. i don't have balls to do it..
I can't really see where the wires a solded. Can you pls make another macro?
Right.... it won't be easy for those without any knowledge or skills .... Like me

dude i think you should take a cleaner/sharper picture. its still not clear enough, there is a lot of blur... :(
Woohoo!! Next step please....
this seems like a lot of work for a hack which is immediately killed by any fw update.
Looks like the solder technique for modding a PSP with a Undiluted Platinum.
I suggest using 0,15mm coated copper wire, the one that looks blank and is coated with a heat sensitive material. Thats a lot more bendable.
and make sure your soldering iron is super hot so that you won't have lifted pad!
quit bitching about the amount of work people!
it's the first unlock - if you don't have the skills, don't do it.
i thing geo is being more than nice by walking through this process with everyone
hey geo will this work only in the US or will it work in for ex. Canada on fido? or rogers.
It will work anywhere that you have a GSM network. Find out if your network is GSM, if so, it will work.
lol ya its gsm alright, Thanks.

dude its a shame you put all the effort in producing an unlock for the iphone and not the time to make an elegant solution detailing the process

No one said this was going to be for noobs.

of cake. Equipment is the key, don't try this
stuff with too big soldering irons. I use
a 0,4mm needle style point
i have modded a lot of x-boxes - so for me the pictures are explaining enough
can i use conductive ink instead of the switch?
I dont think this is too difficult, of course you need some skills.
Could you post better photo ?
hu
Use an embossing heater to heat the solder and the board, shielding the plastic case with aluminum foil.
I'm I doing correct??

Please look at 5th photo which is my iPhone with soldling.
